French pianist Jean-Philippe Collard


Jean-Philippe Henri Collard, born on 27 January 1948 in Marquil-sur-Ay, Marne, is a renowned French pianist. He is particularly known for his interpretations of the works of Gabriel Fauré and Camille Saint-Saëns. Collard comes from a musical family and started playing the piano at the age of five. His talent was recognized early on, and at the age of 16, he won the First Prize at the Paris Conservatory of Music. He has also won several other prestigious awards, including the Gabriel Fauré Award, the Albert Roussel Award, and the Cziffra International Competition. In 1973, Collard made his recital debut in Paris at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, and his performance was highly praised by critics. He made his American debut the same year with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Seiji Ozawa. Collard has a prolific recording career with more than thirty titles to his credit. His discography includes works by Rachmaninov, Brahms, Ravel, Chausson, Saint-Saëns, Mozart, Chopin, and Liszt. He has recorded all five Saint-Saëns piano concerti with André Previn and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition to his performing career, Collard is the Artistic Director of the Flâneries musicales de Reims. He lives in Paris with his wife and five children and was appointed a Chevalier of the Legion of Honour in January 2003.
